September 2016 PoochieStar Videos

A lil yoga S-t-r-r-e-t-c-h while he’s at it!

Banjo the Mini Golden-Doodle, knows how to multitask. You can find him on Instagram @banjo.minigoldendoodle.

Just an FYI, my husband and I are SO HAPPY we found PoochieBells! We were struggling with potty training and a friend of ours mentioned trying the bell…I found it at our local pet store here in Des Moines, IA. We started using the bells on a Thursday and by the following Tuesday, Banjo was 100% housebroken and hitting his bell each and every time he needed to go outside (along with his sweet little yoga pose/stretch!)

THANK YOU for helping us make housebreaking a breeze!

The Thompson Family

Hi Poochie-Pets,

I have attached the video below. We just love our bells and think it is the best invention ever!!

Thank you,
The McAtee Family

Because of Bean: A PoochieLife Story

Because of Bean | A PoochieLife Story
PoochieLife Reason #220
“Bean helps me to be a better, more patient, loving, and giving person. I truly try to be the person she thinks I am!”
Bryn

Bryn, part of our PoochieLife community, recently shared her story with us about her Boston Terrier, Bean, who opened doors and made Bryn’s life that much sweeter.

Because of Bean | A PoochieLife Story“Bean joined us as a squirmy four-pound puppy from the land of New Hampshire about a year after my husband and I got married. She is now seven and a half. Bean goes right for the face—she is an extreme love bug and snuggles a large amount. Bringing Bean into our lives changed how we lived. We had to be more mindful of our schedule; we had to learn how to hone our awareness to her needs. We brought her with us everywhere we could to introduce her to new things and meet new people.

Having Bean broadened our horizons and grew us as people. We became more conscientious and looked for ways to give back. I began to take an obsessive amount of pictures of Bean, and we became famous instagrammers. After entering and winning many contests, we decided to start giving all our prizes to shelters. Since we’ve been on Instagram, we have won $6,800 worth of food, treats, toys and grants. Right now, Bean and our other sweet Boston Terrier, Yoda, are going through training to be service dogs. Bean and Yoda both have become a huge part of our lives, as you can probably see by our blog Adogwalksintoabar.com, containing our two passions (dogs and beer), some funny photos and training insights. It is amazing how our travels and experiences have expanded because of Bean.”

Poochie-Pets Wins Best Cover Design!

Best Cover Design | Poochie-Pets

We at Poochie-Pets had the chance to celebrate our team efforts when we won the best cover design for Women in the Pet Industry Network’s magazine. Women in the Pet Industry Network, or WIPIN, is an organization that connects women in the pet industry through providing a community space of support and advice. Our director of operations Sally saw the contest and got together with our graphic designer to make a cute cover that would knock the ball out of the park. Our director of sales Shawn also put her hat in the ring and came up with our cover’s fun phrase.

Our cover was, of course, inspired by our pooches and their eagerness to get outside when the winter thaws to spring. Their energy is infectious, and we find ourselves being called outdoors as well to enjoy the sunshine and watch nature wake up again.

Thanks to WIPIN for giving us this honor!

Fearless Bulldog Henry: A PoochieLife Story

Fearless Bulldog Henry| A PoochieLife Story
PoochieLife Reason #221
“Henry teaches me to live each day in the present moment, and to be fearless.”
Kirby

Kirby, part of our PoochieLife community, recently shared her story with us about her family dog Henry, who made her a better person by living his life whole-heartedly and fearlessly exerting himself.

Fearless Bulldog Henry| A PoochieLife Story“I lived with my brother and mom at the time we got Henry. My brother really wanted an English Bulldog. I mentioned this to my boss one day, and she told me her dentist had an English Bulldog up for adoption. We went to see Henry and took him home that night. Before then, we had always had cats and didn’t quite know how to take care of dogs, so Henry became aggressive over time. But we weren’t going to give up on him; he was family. We put Henry in training, and his trainers told us “this dog is a working dog. He wants a job”. So, we started walking Henry for about 3 miles every single day. Blizzards were about the only thing that stopped us. If it was going to be a killer-hot day, I’d get up early and walk him in the cool of the morning. If it was cold or rainy, we’d bundle up.

After walking that much every day, you get tired of the old neighborhood, so we sought out new places to hike. Henry wasn’t afraid of anything; he would immediately tackle steep hills, mountains, rivers and new places. I taught Henry to swim in the rivers (bulldogs don’t really swim, but he did). After tiring him out, he’d plop down on the floor and be happy and relaxed for the rest of the day. If we didn’t get around to exercising him, he would shake and shiver with tension, so we really dedicated ourselves to walking without fail.

Henry was with us for eight years; he lived a good life. But so did we. I was focused on taking care of him and meeting his needs, but after walking 3 miles or more every day for 5 plus years, that became something I needed too. We all walked Henry—he was a family dog—but after we lost him, we all stopped walking. I discovered that I needed it: to get outside in the fresh air and not be stagnant in life. For me, Henry taught me that lesson. Being out in the sun and the elements was refreshing and relaxing, not just for Henry, but for me too, and our walks gave me more energy for the day. My brother, mom and I still send pictures and memories of him back and forth, to keep his spirit alive. He was really a legendary dog, amazingly fearless and driven.”

See Kirby’s video dedicated to Henry here.
